I've got some flack about supporting former Speaker Newt Gingrich since Herman Cain's sudden departure from the race for the Presidency, but just because I have been so quick to move my support does not mean that I still don't feel that Herman is the best man for the office.  Further, as you can hear below, the charges against him have been completely unfounded and certainly in this case, not true at all, and I firmly believe him.

This call to the Roger Hedgecock Show comes from Biff Naylor, who, like Herman, was Chairman of the National Restaurant Association and was there when Herman was hired.  There is no doubt that Herman is the victim of a biased main stream media assault as evidenced here and the one lone article about Naylor coming to his defense.  Rest assured if this would have been another 'victim' making a charge against Cain it would have been broadcast worldwide.

Here's the quote from the Wall Street Journal that Naylor speaks about:

"W.W. "Biff" Naylor, a California restaurant owner and restaurant association board member, cast doubt on the idea of a settlement by the trade group. Mr. Naylor said he was unaware during Mr. Cain's three-year tenure at the association of any sexual allegations concerning Mr. Cain. Mr. Naylor said he also was unaware of any harassment-related settlement going before the executive board, on which he also served.

"There is no way we would have paid a settlement without this going before the executive board," said Mr. Naylor, who as chairman hired Mr. Cain as the trade group's president in 1996."

Back in May of this year, Newt Gingrich's daughter Jackie Gingrich Cushman wrote a column about one of the most damaging stories that has been repeated about her father:  The story that Speaker Gingrich served divorce papers to his ex-wife while she lay in a hospital bed while receiving chemotherapy treatment for cancer.    I have been given permission by Creators.com, her syndication agents, to reprint an excerpt for WeArePolitics readers.

"My father, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, has been in politics as long as I can remember.

And as long as I can remember, media coverage about him has contained misstatements of facts. The vast majority are simple mistakes that are easily corrected, understood and rewoven into an ongoing storyline.

But one of them seems to have taken on a life of its own, and simple corrections have not sufficed to set the record straight. Why does this happen? I can't be sure, but I suspect that the narrative created by these untruths proves to be so much more compelling and more dramatic than what actually happened that it proves irresistible...

...Mom went to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta for surgery to remove a tumor. While she was there, Dad took my sister and me to see her. It is this visit that has turned into the infamous hospital visit about which many untruths have been told. I won't repeat them. You can look them up online if you are interested in untruths. But here's what happened:

Dad took my sister and me to the hospital to see our mother.

She had undergone surgery the day before to remove a tumor.

The tumor was benign."

Please read the column in its' entirety here.

There is no question that each and every candidate for every office in every election has some type of baggage.  The mainstream media continues to remind us of a Conservative's past but somehow gets a severe case of amnesia when it comes to a Liberal's.  We have already seen how the press went after Herman Cain.  This is a great reason not to believe everything you read...

The "big buzz" today in Washington is a Politico story alleging that Herman Cain sexually harassed two female employees. The allegations date back to the 1990s during his tenure as president of the National Restaurant Association and were settled out of court.

During an interview today with Fox News, Cain acknowledged that he had been falsely accused of sexual harassment, and said the allegations were proven false. Cain categorically denied that he sexually harassed anyone, calling the charges, "totally baseless and totally false." But he left open the possibility that the National Restaurant Association may have settled the cases, saying, "If the restaurant association did a settlement, I wasn't even aware of it and I hope it wasn't for much."

With all the issues out there vying for attention, this story speaks volumes about the media's bias. (Remember Journolist?) As it turns out, the "journalist" who broke the story on Herman Cain has a history of publishing hit pieces, including one headlined, "Is Rick Perry Dumb?" Maybe that is what it takes to succeed in Washington media circles, but it hardly qualifies as journalism.

Our economy is struggling with persistently high unemployment. Our government is running record deficits. Islamists are scoring victory after victory overseas. The meaning of marriage is under assault. (More on that below.) Yet today the media are in a frenzy about unproven, decade-old allegations.
